LANSING, MI — Michigan hunters donated a record amount of venison last hunting season.
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, 140,000 pounds of venison were donated through a DNR program that connects processors with food banks.
The fiscal year 2024 total is a record for annual donation through the Hunters Feeding Michigan program. It equates to roughly 560,000 servings of venison.
“Every year it seems like more hunters choose to donate their harvest to the program, which helps feed even more of our neighbors across the state,” said program specialist Joe Presgrove. “I frequently receive calls and letters from the local food pantries thanking the program for providing much needed protein to their communities.”
