State Rep. Cecil Brockman, D-Guilford, is facing calls to resign immediately, foremost by Republican House Speaker Destin Hall, R-Caldwell, and House Minority Leader Robert Reives, D-Chatham, following his arrest on child-sex charges.

Brockman, 41, is being held in the Guilford County jail under no bond.

Brockman has been charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of statutory rape of minors ages 13 through 15, according to jail records.

If Brockman resigns, Gov. Josh Stein would appoint a replacement from a list of nominees provided by the executive committee of Brockman's Democratic party. Brockman's seat is up for election next year, so the replacement would serve until the end of 2026. The replacement could run for election.
