MENTOR, Ohio — The Lake County Dog Shelter confirmed to 3News on Thursday that three dogs, one of which was involved in a brutal attack on a 4-year-old girl in Mentor, have been euthanized.
The dog responsible for the attack is now being tested by the Lake County Health Department, officials said.
The attack occurred on Oct. 4, when Mentor police and Mentor fire responded to a call at 8150 Rushton Drive at around 1:31 p.m., reporting a pitbull had attacked a 4-year-old girl and her mother.
Mentor Fire Rescue transported the child, Carina Higham, to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital due to severe injuries. The mother, Alexis Higham, was also bitten during the incident and needed stitches in both of her hands.
