SYCAMORE, Ill. — A family affected by a recent local tragedy is reaching out for support.

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, 60-year-old Gary Schmidt and 59-year-old Holly Schmidt were found dead in their Sycamore home during a police wellness check. Their son, 35-year-old Kevin Schmidt, was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree murder after he was found driving a car from the home in Rockford.

The Schmidts' daughters, Shannon and Allie, asked for help to cover "unexpected expenses". They said they live away from home, and that time off work and funeral, travel, and lodging costs have become stressful during an already painful time.

The GoFundMe has raised over $80,000 of its $50,000 goal. The Schmidts asked for help sharing the link if a donation is unable to be made.
