Fresno Unified School District allegedly had a registered sex offender serving as a volunteer coach at Fresno High School.

The allegations were made in a complaint received by the district in September by a former Fresno High School student.

The big picture: According to the complaint, FUSD allowed Dusty Lewis to be a volunteer softball coach. • Lewis is a convicted felon and a registered sex offender. Megan’s Law – the California Department of Justice sex offender database – states that Lewis was convicted of rape by force or fear in 2001 and was relesaed in 2008. • The complaint alleges that Fresno Unified did not conduct mandatory fingerprint clearance or background checks on Lewis.
