LADUE – The driver who crashed into a bookstore here, killing a pedestrian and injuring another, thought she was pressing on the brake when she instead slammed on the gas, according to a police report released Thursday.

The 53-year-old driver was parking a BMW SUV in a spot up against the sidewalk, facing the Ladue Barnes & Noble, when she saw the two pedestrians in front of her, she told police.

“(She) stated she pressed on the brake quickly but realized that she actually pressed on the gas,” police wrote in their report. “At this time, the front of (her) vehicle struck both pedestrians and crashed into the storefront of Barnes & Noble.”
