The 4th Annual Día De Los Muertos Festival in downtown Decatur has been canceled for 2025. The decision was made due to concerns about immigration status and safety, prioritizing the well-being of the community.
"Our hearts are with everyone who looks forward to this beloved celebration," said Jesse Gonzalez, Committee Chairman for Día De Los Muertos Decatur. "While this was not an easy choice, we believe it is the right one to ensure the safety and security of all participants."
The committee is working to establish a nonprofit, Downtown Decatur’s Corazón y Cultura. The committee hopes this will help expand their mission to celebrate and share Latino culture, creating inclusive spaces in Decatur.
Corazón y Cultura plans to award scholarships to underserved, first-generation students. T
