VERMILLION, S.D. (KTIV) - Police say a South Dakota man was arrested after barricading himself inside an apartment.

The Vermillion Police Department says at about 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, they got a report of a domestic assault. According to police, this assault was reported on Vermillion’s Cottage Avenue, and due to its location, the Vermillion School District was notified.

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Christian Vilchez, a Vermillion resident. He was not at the scene when officers arrived, but was later located at an apartment.

Vilchez reportedly barricaded himself inside the apartment. He later surrendered to authorities after investigators negotiated with him.

Vilchez was charged with simple assault (domestic) and had an outstanding warrant out of Yankton Coun
