CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago police officer shot a possible robbery suspect Thursday afternoon on the South Side, CPD said.

Officers responded to the 100-block of West 111th Place in Roseland about 1:45 p.m. to stop a male suspect in connection to a pattern of robberies, police said.

The suspect fled on foot, and officers saw he had a gun, police said.

They told him to drop the weapon, but he did not, police said.

An officer then shot him in the leg.

Police rendered aid, and the suspect was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

CFD said the person shot is a man.

CFD also said he was initially in good condition.

Two officers were also taken to an area hospital for observation.
