The Pine Bluff Police Department reiterated Thursday morning to the Arkansas Times that the death of 37-year-old Demetrice Moore in the Dollarway neighborhood of Pine Bluff was a result of suicide, not foul play or a racially-motivated lynching.
Moore, who was Black, was found dead on Sept. 14, hanging from a rope around his neck in his small, rented structure on North Moreland Street by an acquaintance of Moore and an acquaintance of that acquaintance. His death spawned internet speculation that he had been murdered. Pine Bluff PD public relations specialist John Worthen could not confirm whether it was Moore’s girlfriend who called the police to report finding his body, as the Pine Bluff Commercial reported on Oct. 3.
“We’re not trying to hide anything,” Worthen said.
