ELKO, Nev. (KOLO) - An officer with the Elko Police Department has been charged in connection with a fight that occurred in downtown Elko in September.

Officer Luis Garcia has been charged with battery with substantial bodily harm, a felony, and challenging to fight, a misdemeanor.

The charges Garcia is now facing stem from an incident on Sept. 1, just before 1:00 a.m., when officers with the Elko Police Department responded to downtown Elko for reports of a fight.

Garcia, who was off duty at the time, is accused of being involved in a physical confrontation with an employee of an area business.

Garcia was placed on administrative leave and will have his initial court appearance in November.
