A hefty great white shark has resurfaced — but the creature's location is a surprise to the scientists who follow him.
On Saturday, Oct. 4, Ocearch announced via Instagram that it tracked the apex predator known as Contender to a northern area off the Atlantic Ocean, just beyond the shores of Maine. The nonprofit organization, which is known for its shark tracking site, said it received "a rare ping from the Gulf of St. Lawrence, a region where we don't often see signals from Ocearch-tagged sharks."
