CHHINDHWARA, INDIA -- The owner of a pharmaceutical company in India has been arrested in connection with the deaths of at least 21 children who consumed a cough syrup made by his company. According to CBS News , G. Ranganathan, 75, was arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and adulteration of drugs in connection with the deaths.
Sold under the brand name Coldrif, the cough syrup is manufactured by Sresan Pharma. The deaths of the children -- who are all five years old or younger -- have all happened in the last month and only after they were prescribed the medication. Most of the deaths involved children who lived in the state of Madhya Pradesh, according to officials.
