SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - This past weekend’s shooting at Miami Hills Apartments left a 4-year-old girl injured, which raised the number of children hurt in shootings in the city to four in the last three months.
But during the South Bend Police Department’s quarterly public safety meeting on Thursday, Capt. Kayla Miller announced a major update.
Although the child was injured during the shooting, the injury did not come from a bullet.
“Initially we did report that a 4-year-old was a victim of a gunshot wound. Ultimately, it was determined through our investigation that she did not suffer a gunshot wound, so that is the positive news,” Capt. Miller said. “However, we still treat that case as if we were working a gunshot wound to a 4-year-old.”
