CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Women have become one of the fastest-growing groups among the homeless population. Homeless shelters are a temporary solution to housing insecurity, but what happens after that? A local organization is elevating their mission by creating long term safe places for women in need to call home.

Lori Ferguson has always had a heart for helping people.

“I just would come home and say mom this girl needs a place to live. Can she come live with us?,” said Ferguson. “It’s just something that been there most of my life.”

It’s a passion she’s putting into action with her non-profit, Project 29:11. The name comes from a Bible Verse from the book of Jeremiah.
