A Baton Rouge man accused of kicking his aunt's dog and killing it was arrested Wednesday on a count of aggravated cruelty to animals.

Daniel Decuir, 26, was visiting a residence on Rampart Court on June 13, 2023, to retrieve a phone charger, according to an affidavit for his arrest provided by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

He reportedly had been in an argument with the mother of his child earlier that day.

Decuir's cousin, who was at the house at the time, told authorities that he first noticed something was wrong around half an hour after Decuir had retrieved his charger and left the residence.

The cousin first found a case of water that had pushed off a table in the living room, then he saw his mother's dog laying unresponsive next to a sliding patio door.
