PENFIELD, N.Y. (WROC) — A threat from a Penfield student last month has mobilized parents to advocate for greater safety measures within the district, and sparked a tense school board meeting Tuesday night.

Penfield parent and school volunteer Rebecca Delaney-Johnson said she felt the district’s initial response to the potential threat was inadequate. She attended the meeting to voice her concerns but said what began as a conversation about safety has since devolved into racist backlash directed at district leaders.

“I do not associate with any of the hate and rhetoric going on towards our Black, amazing female leadership in the district,” Delaney-Johnson said. “I do not associate, and I do not ever want to be a token because I did break a rule.”
