London: Hamas and Israel have agreed to the first phase of Donald Trump’s solution to the Gaza war.
The deal represents a breakthrough on the path towards the US president’s ambitious 20-point plan for peace in the Middle East.
Under the terms, hostages will be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Israeli forces have also agreed to withdraw troops in Gaza to an agreed line.
That leaves most of the rest of the plan, including a stabilisation force, aid and a future Palestinian state, to be negotiated.
