Swatara Twp. posted on social media today that 29th Street will open just shy of two weeks from now.

“The 29th Street bridge project is wrapping up! 29th Street is scheduled to reopen on October 22nd!” the township posted on Facebook.

But, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said, that might not be the case.

“We’re not 100 percent sure the bridge will open on 10/22,” said Dave Thompson, community relations coordinator for PennDOT’s District 8, in an email response to PennLive.

The new bridge carries traffic over Interstate-83 in Swatara Twp. The old bridge was demolished and the new bridge is part of the larger I-83 Capital Beltway Project.

The bridge closed in July 2024 so drivers are anxious to have it reopen. Comments on Swatara Twp.’s post included “Hallelujah” and “
