A woman has serious injuries after she was run over by a car in Meriden on Thursday, police said.

Meriden police responded to the area of East Main Street and Swain Avenue around 1:15 p.m.

Responding officers found a woman in her 60s lying in the road with injuries to her head and lower body.

Investigators said the woman was crossing Swain Avenue in the crosswalk, but the walk signal was not on. That's when a 17-year-old driver made a right turn, didn't see the woman crossing and struck her.

A good Samaritan and officers helped treat the woman on scene, and she was taken to a nearby trauma center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyo
