ASH GROVE, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is holding a program this month on the basics of hunting.

According to an MDC news release, the department is holding an event titled "Learning to Hunt: Deer Hunting Basics" on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center.

MDC says the event will cover skills such as scotuing, setting up, how to take effective shots, regulations, hunting strategies and equipment.

The program is set to be instructed by MDC Outdoor Education Center Assistant Manager Steve Govero, the release says.

The event is free for all ages, but the department asks residents to register before the event.
