LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- In response to what speakers described as increasing attacks on transgender rights at state and national levels, Lakewood City Council unanimously passed a resolution Monday night adopting a “Gender Freedom Policy” designed to protect the city’s LGBTQ+ residents.

The resolution, which received strong community support during public comment, features several protective measures including deprioritizing police investigations into gender-affirming care, protecting performers and entertainers and keeping private healthcare information secure for city employees.
