A Tulsa artist’s work featured in the hit FX series, The Lowdown , is now taking center stage in real life.

When actor Ethan Hawke’s character stops to admire a painting by Tulsa native Joe Brainard, he argues that it belongs in a museum.

The team at Philbrook Museum agreed and decided to make that scene a reality.

Bringing Brainard’s Work Home

Philbrook’s Director of Communications, Jeff Martin, said the museum reached out to the show’s creator, Sterlin Harjo, to find the owner of the original piece.

“We saw that scene and we thought it would be really cool to get the original work at the museum,” Martin said. “We reached out to Sterlin, the creator of the show, and asked who owns this piece. That started the ball rolling to find the owner, and they were kind enough to loan it to u
