PHOENIX — With more rain on the way, Valley residents are preparing for the potential flooding that could come with the incoming storm.

For many, the memory of the last downpour is still fresh. Especially in flood-prone areas like south Phoenix. That’s why people like Anthony Urias didn’t wait to act, picking up sandbags Thursday to protect their homes.

“We live in the flood zone in south Phoenix, and the streets were pretty bad. The debris everywhere, some of the houses got messed up,” he explained.

Urias collected sand for both his house and his mother’s at the Encanto Park Sports Complex. Earlier, he went to the location at Cesar Chavez Park, but said it was already out of sand.

After filling up more than half a dozen sandbags, he drove directly to his mom’s home and began stacking
