Iam a huge advocate for good therapy offered by a psychologist . Getting it has made me braver about encountering things that might hurt me – and more thoughtful about how I respond to others’ behaviour by acting in line with my own values.

But I am convinced that bad therapy is doing the opposite of that – and is teaching people to coddle their own emotional wellbeing at the expense of others.

It does so by hijacking useful concepts like “boundaries” and “self-care” and through trivialising important ones like toxicity or trauma – everything can be viewed through the lens of what others have done to you. And as far as I can see, it’s becoming increasingly commonplace.
