Just weeks prior to the start of the 2025 boys tennis season, Grand Junction got hit with a couple curveballs off the court.
Multiple student athletes who had played for their Tigers in previous seasons and figured to be key players this season had either moved out of state or had given up the sport completely, casting a shadow of uncertainty over Grand Junction’s starting lineups as the regular season approached.
On Thursday in the Class 4A Region 8 tournament, the Tigers’ three singles players and all four doubles teams won regional titles and earned their spots in the state tournament.
The result is a far cry from the Tigers’ preseason outlook and many of the players were surprised at the regional success.
