A man who was pushed into the rubbish collection area by a truck at the Mugga Lane tip has died.

About 2.45pm on Wednesday, October 1, a 78-year-old man was hit by a reversing truck at the Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre, ACT Policing said.

The collision pushed him into the rubbish collection area where the Pearce man sustained life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken to hospital.

He died on Friday, October 10.

The circumstances of the incident are under investigation by the ACT Policing's major collision team. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Because the location is regularly accessible by the public, and is a "road-related area", the death is being considered as a road fatality.
