Two wombats are at the centre of a custody battle churning up a prominent Canberra wildlife charity.
On the one side is Sara Lo who has the animals - Bambi and Fern - in her back garden in Downer. She is (or was) an animal carer with ACT Wildlife which takes in and cares for animals orphaned, for example, when cars hit mothers.
On the other side is the charity itself which has banned the wombat keeper from caring for animals, very much including wombats. It has told Ms Lo that she is no longer licensed to care for animals, and it wants the wombats back.
But Ms Lo says she won't hand Bambi and Fern back, so they find themselves caught in the middle of a tug-of-love dispute.
