KALAMAZOO, MI –– Soaking in the historic moment and beaming with pride as its first-ever national championship banner ascended into the rafters in front of a charged-up sellout crowd, everything was lined up for Western Michigan hockey to keep on riding the wave of celebration in starting a brand-new season.
But Ferris State had other plans.
Despite commemorating its first-ever national championship in a grand banner-raising pregame ceremony, Ferris State played major spoilers by crashing the party and knocking off the No. 1-ranked Broncos in a stunning 3-2 season-opening upset at Lawson Arena on Thursday night.
