There is only a few weeks left to visit Perth Zoo’s lone elephant before he packs his trunk.

Putras Mas is about to make the cross-country journey to join a herd of gentle giants at Monarto Safari Park in South Australia.

It’s been a jumbo effort with a custom-made crate created to transport him from Perth Zoo.

Perth Zoo’s John Lemon said Putras Mas was “ready to go”.

“We just need to look at weather and track that and make sure that everything’s perfect for the move,” he said.

“He’ll join a herd of four other gentle giants including Perth Zoo’s last female elephant Permai.”

She left in January but it wasn’t all smooth sailing with fighting between elephants as she settled in.

But Permai’s now starting to feel at home.
