BOSTON (WWLP) - The National Guard is the primary combat reserve of the Army and Air Force, and they are typically deployed during war or natural disasters. President Trump, however, is deploying the Guard across the country to end protests against ICE that he says are getting in the way of enforcing the United States' laws.
The guard can be deployed under three sets of circumstances, including when the president is unable to execute laws using regular forces. This is the argument the Trump administration is using to send troops to DC, Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, and other Democrat-led cities.
Governor Healey says a similar deployment is not necessary in the Bay State.
