OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR)— A disease, thought to be eradicated from the US decades ago, has seen the highest number of cases in 33 years, mostly in those unvaccinated.
According to the CDC, more than 1,500 measles cases have been reported across the country so far this year.
In all of 2024, that number was 285. In 2023, that number was 121.
The three states with the highest number of cases this year border Oklahoma, but one doctor we spoke with says despite the number of cases across the country, Oklahoma is doing okay.
"We have seen an increase over the last couple of years, more so than we saw 10, 20 years ago," Dr. Ryan Brown, Pediatrician at OU Children's Health said.
Measles is surging again in the United States. The country is seeing its highest number of cases since the early '90's.
