The fall edition of the Demolition Derby cranks up Oct. 11 at the Burnet County Fairgrounds. Despite the catastrophic collisions of the competing cars, the event is light-hearted fun that raises funds for the Burnet County Rodeo Association, according to organizer Rustey Ward.

“You don’t think Demolition Derby and Western heritage mix, but it embodies the spirit,” he told DailyTrib.com. “It’s still neighbors helping neighbors.”

The smash-‘em-up event, which also takes place in April, is one of three annual BCRA fundraisers. Proceeds support local 4-H and FFA programs, including livestock purchases at youth stock shows, scholarships, and cancer research donations.
