TAWAS CITY – HeadWaters Land Conservancy (HWLC) hosted a coastal foraging walk along the scenic landscapes of Tawas City, bringing participants up close with the native plant life of Michigan’s northeastern shoreline.

According to representatives, the event offered a hands-on opportunity to explore local edible, medicinal and ecologically important species, while also learning how to engage with nature respectfully and responsibly.

Led by Amanda Derocher, an experienced forager and educator, the guided walk focused on identifying plant species native to the region’s coastal woodlands and dune habitats. Participants learned about traditional uses, ethical foraging practices and how to distinguish edible plants from lookalikes in a supportive, educational setting.
