NEAR TOFTE — A wildfire within George H. Crosby Manitou State Park has grown since it started on Wednesday, but according to the Minnesota Incident Command System (MNICS), firefighters made progress on Thursday with containment.

Smoke was first detected on Wednesday in a remote area near the Caribou River within the state park, with an initial size estimated at 30 acres, according to a news release.

In an update on Thursday morning, authorities said the size increased to 50 acres, and in an additional update on Thursday evening, the MNICS said that with better access to the fire perimeter, the fire has been mapped at 160 acres, but firefighters have the wildfire 25% contained. The public is asked to avoid the wildfire area for their safety and the safety of fire personnel.
