As any dog lover knows, it’s nearly impossible to walk away from a dog in need. Sadly, shelters often face tough realities, and not every life can be saved.

When Laura Hsiao and her daughter, Maya, stopped by the Georgia shelter where Laura volunteered, they came across a heartbreaking situation. A dog named Dori was scheduled for euthanasia within hours because no one had stepped forward to adopt her.

For Maya, that was something she simply couldn’t accept. Instead of leaving, the young girl decided she would stay by Dori’s side for as long as it took.
