The Sessions Court (Special Judge – Prevention of Corruption Act), North Goa at Merces, has directed the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to register an FIR against the Secretary, Sarpanch, and other officials of the Village Panchayat of Santa Cruz in connection with alleged corruption in the garbage collection labour contract.
The order comes after the ACB failed to act on a complaint filed by Opposition Panch Member Mr. Inacio Domnic Pereira, who had approached the court seeking registration of an FIR under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Mr. Pereira has welcomed the Sessions Court’s decision, terming it a victory for transparency and accountability in local governance.
The complainant was represented in court by Advocate Digaj Bene.
