Just last year, Tammi Ogle had no plans of running for Emporia City Commission. Although she and her husband Kevin had spent decades in the area and had always been civically engaged, when people approached her family about running, she had initially refused.

“Then I just felt, after lots of talking and visiting with people and visiting with my husband, that this was something I needed to do.”

Several key issues had pushed Ogle towards candidacy, notably worsening relationships with other governing bodies and boards, an economy suffering from job losses, and housing. Realizing that she could be a driving force towards solutions, Ogle decided to file for candidacy.

“Emporia needs leadership that can lift them up and work with other people and move Emporia forward,” she said.
