The city of Surprise canceled Saturday's Fiesta Grande celebration because of heavy rain that is predicted all weekend.
City officials said the decision was made Thursday night to protect the safety of the vendors, city staff and attendees.
"While the skies may be stormy, our pride in Surprise’s vibrant heritage and community spirit remains," the city wrote in a news release announcing the cancelation. "We know Fiesta Grande is more than just a party — it’s a tribute to the rich cultural traditions that make our city so special. We’re already looking ahead to next year’s celebration."
Fiesta Grande is the city's long-running celebration of its history, culture and traditions. For years, it was held in the Original Town Site before moving in recent years to Mark Coronado Park near City C
