Sombr fulfilled a childhood dream during his sold-out hometown show at New York’s Pier 17 on Thursday, Oct. 9. The 20-year-old musician welcomed special guest Sam Smith to the stage to perform the In the Lonely Hour single “I’m Not the Only One.” The duet brought Sombr together with an artist who unknowingly played a significant role in his career.

“This is me when I was 14 years old, I was singing your song,” Sombr told Smith, playing them a video of an early “I’m Not the Only One” cover. “All I wanted to do is be like you.”
