Three people were injured and more than 20 were displaced by a fire Thursday at a Farmington apartment complex, officials said.

Firefighters were called Thursday morning to the Farmington Plaza Apartments in the 31000 block of Shiawassee Street near Orchard Lake Road and Grand River Avenue for a report of fire, representatives said in a statement.

They arrived and found flames in apartments on the building's first and second floors, according to authorities. Fire officials said they requested and received aid from the nearby Farmington Hills Fire Department.

Farmington Hills fire officials said they were called to the apartment building at about 3:30 a.m.

Crews knocked down the fire but found flames had spread to the roof, authorities said.
