Traffic is backed up more than 10 miles, stretching to Fife, on northbound Interstate 5 near Highway 516 in Kent after a fatal crash.

A motorcycle and a car crashed around 2 a.m. Friday on that stretch of I-5 near the Kent-Des Moines Road exit, Washington State Patrol trooper Rick Johnson said. He did not say who died in the crash but said that the driver of the car was not at fault.

Only the HOV lane was open as of 6 a.m., Johnson said.

Traffic has been building up ever since.

Drivers should expect significant delays and take alternative routes if they can, WSDOT said. There is no estimated time for fully reopening the freeway.
