NEWBURGH, New York (WABC) -- A 13-year-old boy has been arrested and is facing a charge of murder after the death of an 11-year-old boy in Newburgh on Thursday morning.

Despite initial reports that the 11-year-old was playing with a gun when it went off -- accidentally shooting himself -- officials said Friday that a 13-year-old friend killed the boy.

Police said during their investigation they recovered a gun and three juveniles of interest were identified.

The 13-year-old, who is not related to the victim named Matthew, was arrested and now faces second-degree murder charges.

"He was the sweetest kid that you would ever want to meet, I know it's cliché to say that he was a good kid, but he was a great kid," said business owner Glenn Pugh.
