OMAHA, Neb. —

A civilian employee of the Air Force at Offutt Air Force Base will serve time behind bars for conspiring to transmit classified information related to the national defense .

David Slater was sentenced to 70 months in prison for conspiracy to disclose national defense information. He received credit for time served and will have one year of supervised release.

According to court documents, Slater worked at Offutt with a top-secret security clearance from August 2021 to April 2022 after his retirement as a lieutenant colonel.

According to the Department of Justice, Slater gave national defense information, which could have been used to hurt the United States or give an advantage to a foreign nation, that was classified to an unauthorized person on a foreign online dating
