GRAND FORKS — Isaac Cariveau wasn't sure what he was getting into when it came to college football recruiting.
After a sophomore season at Detroit Lakes High School (Minn.) was wiped out with an ACL injury, Cariveau wasn't hearing much recruiting interest as he hit the camp circuit.
"I had a really long recovery of over a year, and I pretty much didn't talk to a lot of college coaches," Cariveau said. "I had a kind of slow junior year coming back."
Cariveau started to catch the eyes of coaches as a senior.
"I remember getting my first Division II offer, and I was shocked," Cariveau said. "I went to those camps thinking nobody is going to want me. I really had no idea what I was doing going into it."
Eventually, the 6-foot-3, 305-pound Cariveau accepted a walk-on offer from UND.
