The Oklahoma Meds and Sharps Disposal Committee, in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and the Product Stewardship Institute , has launched its Fall 2025 Safe Disposal Campaign to promote safe disposal of medications and medical sharps.
The campaign coincides with DEA Take-Back Day on Oct. 25, which allows residents to return unwanted medications but not sharps. The statewide initiative fills that gap by connecting Oklahomans with year-round options to safely dispose of both items.
Officials estimate that Oklahoma households generate about 60 million used medical sharps each year. Improper disposal can injure sanitation workers, spread disease and contaminate waterways.
