A man who fatally stabbed a 16-year-old Syrian refugee in the neck after he ‘innocuously’ brushed past his girlfriend has been jailed for a minimum of 23 years.

Alfie Franco was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life following the ‘pointless, motiveless’ attack on Ahmad Al Ibrahim in a crowded shopping street in Huddersfield on April 3.

Ahmad crossed paths with Franco just two weeks after moving to the west Yorkshire town, having fled war-torn Homs.

Franco, who had consumed cannabis, cocaine, diazepam, ketamine, and codeine, was on his way to buy eyelash glue with his girlfriend after a visit to the job centre, when Ahmad brushed past her.
