MOUNT VERNON, Mo. (KY3) - One of southwest Missouri’s most iconic festivals is back for the 59th year, Apple Butter Makin’ Days .
What has grown into a huge, award-winning festival started with humble beginnings that are still the centerpiece all these years later, local groups making apple butter on the lawn of the Lawrence County courthouse.
The Mt. Vernon Area Chamber of Commerce spends the entire year preparing for the weekend when people from all over the world will pass through the rural town.
“We’re a town of 4,500 people,” said Brittni Bates, the chamber’s executive director. “There were 105,000 people at Apple Butter Makin’ Days last year, and we’re expecting the same, if not larger, turnout this year. A feat like this does not happen because of any one person or even one sma
