IOWA (KTIV) - The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced upcoming changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The changes impact what items are eligible for purchase with SNAP benefits and are intended to promote healthier eating habits among Iowans receiving these benefits.

The changes are scheduled to begin on Jan. 1, 2026.

Iowa HHS Director Kelly Garcia said obesity and chronic illness are rising in Iowa, and hopes these steps will lead to a healthier state.
