A 28-year-old Guelph man faces impaired driving charges in a two-car crash that left a woman seriously injured.

Guelph police said on Friday, just before 12:30 a.m., in the area of Wellington Street West and Bristol Street, a driver lost control of their car, crossed the centre line and struck another car head-on.

The woman driving the other car sustained serious injuries to her legs and was taken to a Hamilton trauma centre.

The accused fled the scene on foot and was located nearly two hours later and arrested, police said. He was taken to the police station, where tests showed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system, police added.
